Swap MPS for one of these...
« on: March 06, 2008, 07:43:34 PM »
Thinking of swapping my MPS for one of these. At least all the rattles I have with MPS would be drowned out by less soundproofing and rattley diesel engine! What do you think???

So it may need a bit of BHP injection but am getting fed up of finding new rattles. I know I can be a bit autistic at times but the build quality and quality of plastics is nowhere near as good as my old CIVIC VTI. After 9 years it was as quiet as the day I got it.

Bet the Audi you had previously didn't have those issues. Yes I still love the experience and exclusivity of not having a WRX or whatever but at my age you don't want to drive round with the Bose on full whack all the time to cover up the rattles!
Hopefully things will improve once the dealer has taken it to pieces and put it back together again!!

I couldnt switch my MPS for a truck unless i needed to haul nasty stuff all the time. I fit a large reclining chair in the back of the MPS!! To each thier own i guess... If you had a camper or a trailer you had to haul places i guess it would be a good switch. Trucks usually have the gas mileage of a performance car without the speed! hehe

Feeling a bit better about MPS. Did journey down to Barnstaple and back. Kept stereo high so forgot about rattles! Love those 3 lane uphill roads where you can power past the slower vehicles even with 3 passengers and luggage. Admired a few BT-50s, the surfies seem to like 'em as well as the brickies!! MPS booked in tomorrow for rattles so fingers crossed. It has been a long painful month while I waited for Mazda Dealer to have a spare courtesy car while they have mine for 2 days. I feel a more positive phase coming on. "Vive le MPS!"

Pleased, in a way, that my rattley MPS isn't alone. I do believe that the Bose system was indeed added as A. a means to cover up the rattles and B. Compensation for less than perfect cabin materials.
My previous car was a brand new Audi S3 and its quality was superb but then if the MPS was built with the same TLC and made of higher quality materials we'd have paid S3 money so we can't have it all ways I guess.

Getting back to my MPS. . . . .  . Really annoying rattle coming from just behind the upper center plastic part of the dashboard. Anyone else got that and if so can we get behind the panel without damaging the dash?

This sounds like the 'standard' dashboard/windscreen rattle that so many of the MPS seem to develop. The link below helped me fix ours:
