Mazda 3 spark plugs

Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum 😎
I got a Mazda 3 1.6 manual petrol 77kW,hatchback, 2009., JMZBL14Z201111447.
Can anyone please tell the authentic type of spark plug that goes in?
I've found out on net that original one should be NGK IFR5E13 (6903), but don't know if that is correct?!
Are there any alternative spark plugs that you have good experience with?

Any input would be much appreciated.

Just go with OEM fit, they aren't cheap but they last 6 years minimum and are what the engine is designed for.

Do you have your owners manual? Correct plugs will be in the back in the glossary.

Jes, I do have owners manual, but in manual there are several OEM plugs for Z6 type engine, maybe there are different versions of it.

If you ring a Mazda dealer with the VIN they will tell the exact one.

Unfortunately with their being a few different options that's the best option.

If you are not near a Mazda dealer I would think any reputable make plugs would be fine and probably cheaper. Halfords offer these Bosch plugs for your car:

Jes, I do have owners manual, but in manual there are several OEM plugs for Z6 type engine, maybe there are different versions of it.

My gen-1 car (same model) apparently has the (very expensive) irridium type according to the service sheets, which is add, as from a couple of service dockets (bearing in mind I'm not up to 70k miles yet in nearly 14 years from new) it appears they've been replaced twice, but are only about £4 for each plug.  I might have to ask my dealership about this when I get mine serviced (minor service this year compared to the big 6-year one last time) in late December.

I didn't opt out, that's what's odd, as it appeared they were changed out.  I'll ask when I'm there soon as I'll be booking in my car for the annual service.

hi Andy my plugs were over £60 for 4 so I’m not sure why your dealer swapped good plugs for cheap ones.Mine were changed at about 70000 miles but I don’t think the replacement plugs are as good as the originals. I’m not sure what we’re in from factory but from research I think they were Mazda branded or fomoco (ford motor company).just replaced brake calliper the old one had fomoco stamped on it.My dealer at service did say the original plugs are good for 100000 .
